Summer 2007

        Summer Ecology Research Opportunities.

We are currently seeking applications from students interested in summer research studentships at the Firestone Center for Restoration Ecology, in southwestern Costa Rica.  These studentships are for 8 weeks full-time work during the months of June and July. Prior experience is not necessary; we are seeking students with a commitment to hard work in hot, wet, and often dirty conditions and who have the personalities to get along well with the other members of the team. Students must commit to the full program; start and end dates are not negotiable.  We anticipate that 4 studentships will be funded by the Keck and Eaton endowments or the Mellon Grant program of the Joint Science Department. Stipends are $4000 each.

For 2007, we are seeking students to investigate:

 1] Water Quality (nutrients, microbiology).

2} Hydrology (flow rates, turbidity )

 3) Butterfly biodiversity.

 4) Amphibian diversity.

Interested persons should contact Dr. Donald McFarlane at their earliest convenience.  Selections will be made by Dr’s McFarlane, Baduini and Thomson late in the FALL semester (funding applications are submitted in late January).
